The last song syndrome

Funny how I dislike a particular song so much but kept on repeating it by humming it over and over in my head. One example is that ugly song Beautiful Girls. I don’t know what’s with that song but I truly hate it! Sexist and what’s with the “suicidal” word?? The song makes light of suicide and the singer, including everyone behind that pop song, does not mind that a lot of kids and teenagers will be singing the song over and over and will be saying the word “suicidal” every time they will sing the chorus. The irresponsible people behind that ugly song makes light of the fact that suicide will now be an ordinary word to a lot of minors, thereby making it seem okay to commit one. Of course, we all have different interpretations of the song, but for me, whatever is the reason behind the song, it will remain ugly and non sense to me.

But there are songs that remain in my head that are good. Love songs, songs by Kenny G, that Batman theme song, old songs and a whole lot more.

I believe they call it the last song syndrome…

Food Network Takes Emeril Down a Notch

On December 11, mere weeks before the country plunges again into culinary excess, the Food Network will pull the plug on one of its longest-running cooking shows. “Emeril Live!” is going off the air.

As soon as news of this slight to Cajun cuisine hit the Web, buzz for celebri-chef Emeril Lagasse blew a scorching path upwards. Demand for his name surged nearly 900%. Interest in his recipes boiled over. Queries for “emeril cancelled” caught on fire. Bam!

Both the Food Network and the New Orleans power cook say their relationship hasn’t soured. Emeril remains firmly in position at the helm of his other show, “The Essence of Emeril.” Yet, we have to wonder: Has the TV chef’s popularity gone stale with the cable channel’s viewers?

We can’t answer that question. But we do know how the Food Network’s gastro-hosts stacked up in Buzz last week. And Emeril didn’t do so badly. In the studio kitchen, as in pretty much every other venue, the pretty ladies turn the most heads. The fact that Emeril kicked it up a notch above va-va-voom Giada is a tribute to his draw…

1. Nigella Lawson
2. Rachael Ray
3. Paula Deen
4. Emeril Lagasse
5. Giada De Laurentiis
6. Alton Brown
7. Wolfgang Puck
8. Bobby Flay
9. Cat Cora
10. Robert Irvine

What a noble deed

Oprah Winfrey opened her Leadership Academy for Girls outside Johannesburg on Jan. 2, with celebrities including Tina Turner and Spike Lee in attendance, as well as former President Nelson Mandela.

The lavish $40 million school was the fulfillment of a promise she made to Mandela six years ago, and aims to give girls from deprived backgrounds a quality education in a country where schools are struggling to overcome the legacy of apartheid.

Hannah Montana

The soundtrack of Hannah Montana was the eighth best selling album of 2006 in the US with a rough estimate of 3.2 million copies sold worldwide and it also debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200. Hannah Montana focuses on Miley Stewart, who lives a double life as an average teenage girl at school during the day and a famous pop singer, Hannah Montana, at night, concealing her real identity from the public other than her close friends and family.
